## What the theme handles

### Metadata

| Tag | Source |
| - | - |
| `<title>` | Product or page title, plus your shop name |
| `<meta name="description">` | The page description, when one exists |
| `<link rel="canonical">` | Shopify's canonical URL for the current page |
| `<meta name="robots">` | `index, follow` |
| Open Graph tags | Title, description, URL, type, image |
| Twitter card tags | Title, description, image |

> [!NOTE]
>
> The `og:image` falls back to your **favicon** when no social share image is set.
> That is a 32-pixel image scaled to 1200–630, and it looks broken. Set a real social image — see [Branding](https://varaahi.vritservicespro.com/settings/branding.md).

### Structured data

Shopify generates the product, article, and organisation JSON-LD. The theme renders semantic HTML — one `h1`, correctly nested headings, `article` and `nav` landmarks — which is what the schema refers to.

### Image SEO

| Property | Implementation |
| - | - |
| `alt` text | Rendered from the section setting or the product image alt |
| Descriptive filenames | Controlled by you at upload |
| Responsive sizes | `srcset` on the hero image and product cards |
| Lazy loading | Below-the-fold images use `loading="lazy"` |
| Eager loading | The hero image uses `loading="eager"` and `fetchpriority="high"` |

### Performance as an SEO factor

Core Web Vitals are a ranking input. The techniques in
[Performance](https://varaahi.vritservicespro.com/going-further/performance.md) — no layout shift, an un-gated LCP element, mobile without motion — are as much an SEO decision as a speed one.

## What you are responsible for

### 1. Write a meta description

> [!WARNING]
>
> **This is the single most common SEO flag on a Shopify store.** If your store has no
> meta description, the theme outputs nothing, and search engines will write their
> own — which is usually worse.

**Online Store → Preferences → Meta description.** Shopify appends it to every page
that has no description of its own.

```text Good theme={"system"}
Adaptive noise cancelling headphones with 40-hour battery life, dual 40mm drivers
and a companion app for EQ control. Free delivery and 2-year warranty.
```

```text Bad theme={"system"}
Shop our best headphones. We sell headphones for all kinds of people. Order now!
```

### 2. Write real product descriptions

The theme renders your description as-is. The **Description override** in the Hero
Product section is for the homepage; the product's own description is what appears on
the product page and in search results.

### 3. Use one H1 per page

The Hero Product's title is the `h1` on the homepage. Product titles are the `h1` on
product pages. Do not add your own `h1` in a rich text block.

### 4. Optimise image filenames and alt text

```text theme={"system"}
filename:  varahi-aurora-x1-headphones-black.webp
alt text:  VARAHI Aurora X1 over-ear headphones in matte black
```

Not `IMG_2847.jpg` and not "headphones".

### 5. Set a canonical domain

**Settings → Domains** — mark one domain as canonical. The theme outputs `<link rel="canonical">` automatically.

### 6. Write meaningful link text

Screen readers and search engines both read link text out of context. "Read our
shipping policy" beats "click here".

## The SEO checklist

**Meta description is set in Preferences**

**One H1 per page**

**Every image has alt text**

**Product descriptions are original**

**A social share image is set**

**Canonical domain is set**

**The store is not password protected**

**Sitemap is submitted**

> [!NOTE]
>
> VARAHI's SEO score of 92 out of 100 is limited by exactly two things: a missing
> store meta description and an empty `og:image`. Both are fixed in under two minutes.
