# Footer

> The footer column layout, newsletter signup, social links and legal row.

# Footer

The footer carries your newsletter capture, your social proof links, and the legal
row. It uses the same block system as every other section, so you can rearrange it
without code.

## Link columns

Each column is a **Link** block. Add one, give it a heading, and add as many link
sub-blocks as you need.

**1. Add a column**

Click **Add block → Link** in the footer section.

**2. Name the column**

Set the heading — "Shop", "Support", "Company" are the classics.

**3. Add links**

Each link is a sub-block with a title and a URL. You can nest up to two levels.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Link headings are plain text, not links. If you want the heading itself to be a link,
> add a separate link block for it.

***

## Newsletter signup

The newsletter form posts to Shopify's native `customer` form endpoint — no app
required, and subscribers land in your Shopify customer list automatically.

> [!WARNING]
>
> The form does not yet have client-side email validation. It relies on the browser's
> native `type="email"` validation and on Shopify's server-side check. If you want
> inline error messaging, connect a newsletter app and the native form will step
> aside.

***

## Social links

The social row uses **Social link** blocks. Choose an icon and a URL for each.

| Network | Icon |
| - | - |
| Instagram | `instagram` |
| X / Twitter | `x` |
| Facebook | `facebook` |
| YouTube | `youtube` |
| TikTok | `tiktok` |
| LinkedIn | `linkedin` |
| Pinterest | `pinterest` |

> [!NOTE]
>
> Social icons use the theme's self-hosted Material Symbols subset. If an icon you
> want is not in the list, it will render as its raw ligature name rather than a
> glyph. Add the glyph to the icon font subset, or use a custom SVG block.

***

## Best practice

> **Keep the legal row visible**
>
> The copyright line is the one element most often removed and most often needed.
> Keep it, and use the `{{ shop.name }}` and `{{ powered_by_link }}` Liquid
> variables so it stays accurate.

> **Do not put your most important links only in the footer**
>
> If a link matters — size guide, shipping policy, warranty — put it in the header
> too, or in a contextual section. Footers are the least-read region of a
> storefront.

> **One newsletter form per page**
>
> You have the footer form. If a section offers its own inline signup, remove the
> footer one for that template, or you will train people to ignore both.
